Participation in the Launch of Phase II of the STep Ecolab Project
On April 2, 2025, representatives participated in the launch event for Phase II of the STep Ecolab Project, jointly implemented by the international NGO Vétérinaires et Agronomes Sans Frontières and the National Federation of Pasture User Groups of Mongolia (NFPUG).
The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MoFALI), the European Union, the German Center for Sustainable Consumption and Production, the Mongolian Sustainable Finance Association, wool and cashmere producers, and cooperative representatives, among others.
During the event, participants discussed strategies to:
- Strengthen relationships among suppliers, producers, and consumers in the wool and cashmere market
- Improve quality standards and ensure price and supply chain stability
- Enhance the capacity of herder organizations and strengthen their operational frameworks
- Update relevant industry standards based on lessons learned from the previous phase of the project
The National Federation of Pasture User Groups of Mongolia also shared its efforts in aligning the operations of Pasture User Groups (PUGs) and cooperatives with the project goals. These include improving the quality of wool and cashmere to meet market standards, refining fiber micron levels, and supporting the distribution of high-quality breeding bucks and female goats to establish elite core herds.
The project is being implemented in Arkhangai, Uvurkhangai, and Bayankhongor provinces.
