The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, in collaboration with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the NDC Partnership, organized a meeting with representatives of projects and programs working on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Representatives from projects and organizations such as the ECCO-FARM Project, ADAPT Project, ASDIP, SCALA Project, DRYLAND Project, ENSURE Project, STREAM Project, CBIT-2 Project, CANSAP Project (ADRA), UNICEF, JICA, TNC, PIN, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank participated in the meeting and discussed pressing issues.
Representing the “Aimags and Soums Green Regional Development Investment Program” (ASDIP), B. Vanchindorj, Deputy Coordinator for Livestock and rangeland management Component, G.Suglegmaa, Deputy Coordinator for Project Management Affairs, and B. Tserendulam, Environment and Climate Change Specialist, attended the meeting.
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss challenges in addressing climate change, desertification, and land degradation, to exchange information on current project activities, measures being implemented, and expected results, and to strengthen coordination and collaboration among projects and organizations.
Participants emphasized that climate change, desertification, and land degradation pose serious threats to national economies, public health, and the environment, negatively impacting the quality of soil, air, and water, and posing significant challenges to achieving sustainable development goals.
The Government of Mongolia is actively working to fulfill its commitments under the Paris Agreement by implementing its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) across relevant sectors, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 22.7% from 2010 levels by 2030, and by developing adaptation plans for vulnerable sectors while building institutional capacity.
In this regard, under Ministerial Order No. A/807 dated November 22, 2024, working groups have been established to revise and enhance Mongolia’s NDC targets. The updated document is scheduled to be submitted for approval to the Government by June 2025.
Accordingly, this consultative meeting aimed to enhance the collaboration frameworks among ongoing projects and programs, strengthen coordination among initiatives focused on climate change, desertification, land degradation, and biodiversity conservation, and lay the groundwork for stronger partnerships.
