During the meeting, the parties exchanged information on the structure, operations, and current status of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU). They also discussed Mongolia’s national commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reviewed the phased financing framework of the GCF.
Both sides agreed to hold regular coordination meetings going forward to enhance collaboration and ensure the effective implementation of program activities.
The Aimags and Soums Green Regional Development Investment Program (2024–2033) is a ten-year initiative financed through a Multitranche Financing Facility (MFF) with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the European Union (EU), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The program will initially be implemented in three western aimags—Bayan-Ulgii, Uvs, and Khovd—and will subsequently expand to cover 76 soums across 17 aimags nationwide.
The program aims to promote sustainable, climate-resilient, and low-carbon regional development by establishing livable aimag and soum centers, fostering low-carbon and climate-resilient livestock and agribusiness value chains (LCLVCs), promoting local green development models and innovations, and supporting Mongolia’s self-sufficiency in key food products.
